Mode of Action	Ethephon mainly enhances the ability of ribonucleic acid synthesis in cells and promotes protein synthesis. In the abscission zone of plants, such as petioles, fruit stalks, and petal bases, increased protein synthesis prompts the resynthesis of decellulase in the abscission layer, which accelerates the formation of the abscission layer and leads to organ shedding. Ethephon can enhance the activity of enzymes and activate phosphatase and other enzymes related to fruit ripening when the fruit matures, thus promoting fruit ripening. In senescent or disease-susceptible plants, peroxidase changes occur due to ethephon's promotion of protein synthesis. Ethylene can inhibit the synthesis of endogenous auxin and delay plant growth.
