Mode of Action	Indole-3-Acetic Acid is synthesized in the expanding young leaves and apical meristems, and accumulates from top to bottom through long-distance transport in the phloem. Roots can also produce auxin, which is transported from the bottom up. Auxin in plants is formed from tryptophan through a series of intermediate products. The main pathway is through indole acetaldehyde. Indole acetaldehyde can be formed by oxidative deamination of tryptophan to indolepyruvate and then decarboxylation, or it can also be formed by oxidative deamination of tryptophan to tryptamine. Indoleacetaldehyde is then oxidized to indoleacetic acid. Another possible synthetic route is the conversion of tryptophan to indoleacetic acid via indoleacetonitrile. Indoleacetic acid can combine with other substances in plants and lose its activity.
