Prothioconazole is a new type of broad-spectrum triazole thion fungicide developed by Bayer AG, mainly used to control a wide range of diseases in cereal, wheat, and legume crops.

1. Broader fungicidal spectrum. Prothioconazole belongs to the triazole fungicide class, but due to the presence of sulfur ions, it also has some efficacy against some soil-borne diseases such as white mold and stem rot, and has been registered for use.

2. Prothioconazole fungicide has three effects. systemic, eradicative, and protective. Its systemic effect is significantly more pronounced than traditional triazole fungicides, exhibiting superior systemic activity for more thorough and efficient disease control.

3. Prothioconazole fungicide has high safety. Although prothioconazole fungicide has high bactericidal activity, its inhibitory activity on crop growth is much lower than that of common triazole fungicides such as tebuconazole and propiconazole, making it relatively safe.

Mode of action

Prothioconazole's mechanism of action involves inhibiting the demethylation of lanosterol or 24-methylenedihydro-2,4-carboxylic acid at the 14-position in fungi, acting as a demethylation inhibitor (DMI). It possesses excellent systemic activity, superior protective, curative, and eradicative activity, and a long-lasting effect. Extensive field efficacy trials have demonstrated that prothioconazole exhibits good safety for crops, effective disease control, and significant yield increases. Compared to triazole fungicides, prothioconazole possesses a broader spectrum of fungicidal activity.

Precautions

1. Although prothioconazole is a new ingredient, it still belongs to the triazole class of fungicides, and its mechanism of action is the same as other triazole fungicides. Therefore, resistance issues must still be considered when using it. It is advisable to alternate or combine products with different mechanisms of action.

2. Prothioconazole is more effective at treating diseases; its preventative effect is weaker than that of methoxyacrylate fungicides. Therefore, it is best to apply it in the early stages of disease occurrence for better results. Additionally, for preventative use, combining it with fungicides such as pyraclostrobin will yield better results.
