How to control tomato bacterial wilt?

Tomato bacterial wilt is one of the important diseases of Solanaceae vegetables in southern my country. The disease begins after the plant grows to more than 30cm. First, the top leaves wither and then the lower leaves wither. The diseased plants initially wilted during the day and returned to normal after evening. If the soil is dry and the temperature is high, the diseased plant will no longer recover and die after 2 to 3 days, and the leaves will be slightly lighter in color and still remain green, so it is called bacterial wilt. The lower end of the diseased stem often has rough and uneven epidermis, and large adventitious roots of varying lengths often occur. The xylem of the diseased stem is brown, and when squeezed by hand, milky white mucus oozes out, which is an important feature of the disease. The pathogen of this disease is a kind of bacterium, and the pathogen mainly survives the winter in the soil, and can live in the soil for 6-7 years. The overwintering pathogen invades from the root of the vegetable plant or the wound at the base of the stem, and spreads upwards, destroying the conduction tissue of the plant, causing the stem and leaves to wilt suddenly without water supply. The disease occurs most severely from mid to late May to June.

Prevention methods

① crop rotation    Generally, three-year crop rotations are implemented in diseased areas, and 4 to 5-year crop rotations are implemented in seriously ill areas. Water and dry rotation works best.

②Strengthen cultivation management    The diseased plants were found to be pulled out immediately and buried deeply, and lime powder was applied to the diseased points.

③Pharmaceutical control    In the early stage of the disease, you can try 50% benlaite, or 50% carbendazim wettable powder 1000 times liquid, or 200-300 units of streptomycin for root irrigation. Once every 10 days, continuous irrigation for 3 to 4 days.

Expert Tip: Bacterial wilt also occurs in peppers and eggplants. Its control method is the same as that of tomato bacterial wilt. Bacterial wilt is a bacterial disease that often spreads with water. Once it occurs, it should be pulled out immediately, and the acupoints should be disinfected, and the surrounding plants should be protected with chemicals.
