Thiamethoxam uses the insect's acetylcholine receptors to exert its effects and is selectively toxic to insects but non-toxic to mammals. As a broad-spectrum systemic weed insecticide, it is rapidly absorbed by plants and transported to various parts of the plant, where it enters the insect's system and paralyzes it as it feeds on weeds. As an insect bait, it is ingested along with thiamethoxam and subsequently dies.
