EU To Ban Food Imports With Neonicotinoid Pesticide Residues From 2026

Recently, the European Commission announced that from 2026 it will ban the import of products containing residues of neonicotinoid harmful pesticides, a move that adds great global political influence to the "farm to fork" strategy.

The ban will cover two pesticides that pose a high risk to bees and other pollinators: clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Both pesticides have been banned in the European Union, but some countries have managed to circumvent the ban by continuing to spray clothianidin and thiamethoxam on farmland. Chemical giants also continue to produce neonicotinoid pesticides in the EU and export them to non-EU farmers, and the European Commission has pledged to ban the practice by 2023 under the EU Chemicals Strategy.
