Sri Lankan government data show that the country has spent 9.6 billion rupees on importing corn this year. A looming shortage of cereal crops for the animal feed industry amid the fallout from the government's pesticide ban.

Sri Lanka has so far spent Rs 573.4 crore on importing corn seeds and Rs 900 crore on importing other corn-related products including ears of corn, the data showed.
