Sumitomo Chemical Launches Kaiso Max, The First Imidacloprid Hybrid Insecticide in Brazil

Recently, Sumitomo Chemical disclosed to AgroPages that it has launched a new insecticide Kaiso Max in Brazil, with the active ingredients imidacloprid and beta-cyhalothrin. This insecticide has a dual mechanism of action and is an excellent tool for resistance management to protect the production potential of sugarcane fields.

Sumitomo Chemical said that Kaiso Max has powerful efficacy and innovative residual effects, and the product can be used in rotation to increase the effectiveness of insecticide control. This is a unique blend and the first to be formulated with imidacloprid.

The insecticide Kaiso Max is designed to control the sugarcane mosquito, the main pest currently affecting Brazilian sugarcane, which can lead to a significant reduction in sugarcane yields. The sugarcane foamhopper larvae absorb large amounts of water and nutrients from the roots, causing great damage; the sugarcane foamhopper adults suck sap from the leaves and inject toxic saliva into the plant, causing necrosis of the leaf surface and root tissue. This situation has resulted in reduced industrial sugarcane yields, pollution during industrial processing, reduced fermentation yields, a 1.5% reduction in sucrose content, difficulty in producing white sugar, long-term complete withering of sugarcane fields and a scorched appearance, and a reduction in yields of 34 to 78 tons per hectare.

According to estimates by the National Supply Company (Conab), Brazil's sugarcane production in the 2023/2024 season is expected to exceed 670 million tons, an increase of nearly 11% from the previous season. Therefore, the impact of sugarcane foamhoppers can be mitigated with highly effective and long-lasting solutions.

The insecticide Kaiso Max also has advantages such as increased productivity per hectare of sugarcane, good cost-effectiveness, inhibition of pests in the first crop when applied in ditches, compatibility with insect pathogenic fungi used in biological control, and protection throughout the entire crop cycle .The solution is applied to sugarcane fields and soil in a 70/30 formula.

Kaiso Max will be applied during the next harvest season starting in March 2024.
