Prohexadione calcium: a new growth regulator with disease resistance

Paclobutrazol is the most widely used triazole plant growth regulator in production. Due to its wide range of use, long duration, and low price, it is very popular among farmers and widely used in agricultural production. Today I will introduce a new growth control agent that is better than paclobutrazol. This agent is prohexadione calcium.

prohexadione calcium application

What is prohexadione calcium?

Prohexadione calcium is a new plant growth regulator developed by Kuibo Chemical Industries, Ltd. of Japan. It interferes with the synthesis of gibberellic acid in plants, reduces the content of gibberellic acid in plants, and increases the levels of ABA, zeatin, and isopentenyl adenosine-type cytokinins, thereby inhibiting the upper vegetative growth of plants and promoting reproductive growth, achieving the purpose of increasing production and improving quality, and has good disease resistance.

Main functional characteristics

Prohexadione calcium is a plant growth regulator that achieves the purpose of growth control by inhibiting the growth of stems and leaves of plants. It promotes reproductive growth, reduces lodging, promotes lateral bud growth and rooting, keeps stems and leaves dark green, controls flowering time, increases fruit setting rate, and promotes fruit ripening. It also enhances the plant's ability to resist disease, cold, and drought, reduces herbicide damage, and improves plant stress resistance.

Main functions

(1) Control plant growth: Controlling vigorous growth is the most basic function of calcium cyclamate. By inhibiting the synthesis of gibberellic acid in plants, it can control the thickness of stems, shorten internodes, and enhance lodging resistance.

(2) Increase chlorophyll content: By controlling the growth of stems and leaves, it enhances leaf photosynthesis, making the leaves darker green and thicker.

(3) Increase fruit setting rate: While effectively controlling the growth of stems and leaves, calcium cyclamate can also promote flower bud differentiation, increase fruit setting rate, promote fruit enlargement, sweeten and color, and bring fruits to market earlier.

(4) Promote the expansion of roots and tubers: While controlling the growth of stems and leaves, calcium cyclohexane can transfer a large amount of nutrients to the underground part, promote the expansion of underground roots or tubers, increase dry matter content and storage resistance, increase yield and improve quality.

(5) Improve stress resistance: Calcium cyclohexane can regulate the growth and development of plants by inhibiting the content of gibberellic acid in plants, making plants stronger and leaves greener and thicker, enhancing the stress resistance and disease resistance of plants and preventing premature aging of plants.

Applicable crops

Due to its good safety, low toxicity and low residue, calcium cyclohexane can be widely used in food crops such as wheat, corn and rice, oil crops such as cotton, peanuts, soybeans and sunflowers, vegetable crops such as garlic, potatoes, onions, ginger, beans and tomatoes, fruit trees such as citrus, grapes, cherries, pears, betel nuts, apples, peaches, strawberries and mangoes, and Chinese herbal medicines such as Ophiopogon japonicus, Rehmannia glutinosa, Panax notoginseng and Chinese yam.

Usage technology

(1) Improve lodging resistance and increase yield.
Rice, wheat, and barley: 5 to 10 days before jointing, 3g of active ingredient per 667m² can be sprayed on the leaves to significantly shorten the internodes from 6 to 2, indicating that after being absorbed by rice, calcium procyclohexadione can move from bottom to top as the growth progresses, and inhibit the elongation of new internodes in turn, with a drug effect of up to about 30 days. The internodes are shortened, the plant height is reduced, the bending moment is reduced, and the bending resistance of the internodes from 5 to 3 is significantly improved, thereby significantly reducing the lodging index, that is, significantly enhancing the lodging resistance. At the same time, it can also significantly increase the number of grains per ear, achieving the effect of increasing yield. Sorghum: 27-30 days after jointing, 3-6g of active ingredient per 667m2 can be sprayed on the leaves. This can not only effectively inhibit plant height and control the occurrence of the first lodging before the first lodging occurs, but also delay the time of plant growth rebound due to the postponement of the application time, shortening the time between the growth rebound and the end of stem node elongation, so as to more effectively control the final plant height and reduce or completely control the occurrence of sorghum lodging.

(2) Reduce the number of lawn mowing.
Lawn: Bent grass, Bermuda grass, meadow grass, ryegrass, Japanese carpet grass, Zoysia, tall thatch, etc., 10-20g of active ingredient per 667m2 can be sprayed on the leaves. It can be used throughout the growing season and can reduce the height of new plants by 50%-90%, significantly reducing the number of mowing times. When the dosage reaches 20g per 667m², the growth of tall grass can be completely inhibited. The maximum dosage for other lawns can reach 45g per 667m² without causing damage to the lawn.

(3) Improve quality and increase yield.
Apples, pears, cherries, plums, hawthorns, loquats, etc. Spraying with 125-250mg/L foliage within 10 days after flowering can significantly inhibit the vegetative growth of leaves and branches, enhance the light of the fruit, improve the quality of the fruit, increase the yield, and have a good preventive effect on diseases caused by bacteria and fungi such as fire blight.
Peanuts: 30 days after sowing, 2g of active ingredient per 667m², foliar spraying can significantly improve the root vitality of peanuts, the chlorophyll content of leaves, and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and soluble protein (Pr) content in plants (roots and leaves), reduce the malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and significantly reduce the height of peanut plants and the number of kilograms of fruits, increase the number of fruits per plant, oil yield and fat content, and increase the average yield by 12%. Grapes: After the flowers fade, 250mg/L foliar spraying can inhibit the nutritional growth of grapes, increase the pigment and phenol content of grape juice, improve the quality of grapes, and have a certain yield-increasing effect. Cotton: In the middle period, 3g of active ingredient per 667m² can be sprayed on the leaves to inhibit the nutritional growth of leaves and strips, significantly reduce the height of plants, transmit light and ventilation, increase yield and improve quality. Sugar beet, cucumber, tomato: 1.5-3g of active ingredient per 667m2, spray on the leaves, it can inhibit the vegetative growth of leaves and stems, let in light and ventilation, increase yield and improve quality.

(4) Slow down aging. Ornamental plants such as chrysanthemum, cabbage, carnation, etc.: 1.5-3g of active ingredient per 667m2, spray on the leaves, it has the effect of inducing dwarfing, keeping the leaves dark green, slowing down aging, and has no adverse effects on leaves and flowers.
