Neem oil (Azadirachtin ≥5%) is a natural plant essential oil extracted from the seeds of the neem tree. It possesses broad-spectrum insecticidal, antibacterial, and environmentally friendly properties, and is widely used in agriculture and horticulture. Its core insecticidal component, azadirachtin, interferes with the growth and development of pests and is non-toxic and harmless to mammals.

Products Features

Insecticidal Effects and Applications of Neem Oil

Mechanism of Action: Through its azadirachtin content, it inhibits the molting and oviposition abilities of pests, and is effective against over 200 pests, including aphids and spider mites.

Application Characteristics

It can be formulated as a water-soluble spray (recommended concentration 0.5%-2%), requiring the addition of detergent or soapy water as an emulsifier. The optimal spraying time is in the evening, avoiding environments above 30℃. It is harmless to beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies and will not induce pesticide resistance in pests.

Products Applications

1. Neem Oil Kills Pests

If you're facing a problem with garden insects, neem oil is a very effective solution. Because it's natural and completely safe for plants and pets, you can use it as an organic insecticide.

Neem oil is effective against over 200 types of insects, including some of the most common pests such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, moths, and leaf miners.

2. Control Nematodes

Nematodes are notoriously destructive to gardens, especially root-knot nematodes. Interestingly, they are responsible for 5% of global crop losses!

Spraying diluted neem oil around the leaves and roots of plants is one of the most effective ways to stop their spread, as it effectively kills nematode larvae and prevents them from hatching.

3. Keep Slugs Away

Slugs, commonly known as slugs, are shell-less, snail-like animals that are notorious garden pests. They devour the leaves of plants until they die. Neem oil acts like poison to pesky snails and slugs, helping to repel them once applied. A neem oil mixture can be sprayed onto plants using a spray bottle.

4. Prevention of Fungal Diseases

Plants are susceptible to fungal diseases that damage leaves, fruit, flowers, and overall growth. Neem oil is most effective against black spot, anthracnose, Fusarium head blight, rust, leaf spot, and leaf tip wilt.

Research in Nigeria shows that spraying a neem oil solution onto plants can prevent fungal infections because it kills the fungi and prevents them from spreading to other plants!

5. As a Mosquito Repellent

Gardens are ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Spraying neem oil can repel mosquitoes. You can also apply neem oil to your skin, as it is organic and safe.

Mix 2 ml of neem essential oil with 100 ml of coconut oil or other carrier oil and apply to exposed skin. This will provide you with 3 hours of mosquito protection.

6. Prevent Rust Disease

There are over 5,000 types of rust spots that can harm a wide range of plants. Spraying affected plants with neem oil can prevent rust spots from appearing on the leaves and save money.

You can also use other essential oils such as tea tree, thyme, and clove.

7. Control Lawn Grubs

Grass grubs can be very harmful to your lawn because they burrow into the soil and damage the roots of grass and other plants.

Spraying neem oil on the lawn and around the roots of plants is one of the most effective ways to control Japanese grubs, preventing them from laying eggs and hatching into larvae. To control them, mix equal parts neem oil and liquid soap in water and spray where you find them. Repeat the application for better results.

8. Protect Fruits and Berries

If you have fruit and berry trees in your garden, neem oil is the best way to protect them from fruit flies and other pests. Spray plants with diluted neem oil before flowering and when fruit appears. This will keep pests like fruit flies, leafhoppers, and aphids away.

9. Pests will never develop resistance

Even with repeated application of neem oil in the garden, its effectiveness against pests remains the same as the first day. Insects and pests are never immune to neem oil, meaning it is always effective against them.

10. As a foliar spray

Neem oil helps kill insects at different stages, and you can safely use it during their dormant season to kill overwintering insects, eggs, and pests. It can also be used as a foliar spray to eliminate insects.

Dormant neem oil spray can kill insects such as aphids, mites, tent caterpillars, scale insects, and whiteflies.

11. Harmless to pollinating insects

It is well known that pollinating insects like bees are becoming increasingly rare due to climate change. Worse still, synthetic insecticides are also responsible for their deaths. Using neem oil as an insecticide will not harm bees, dragonflies, and butterflies because they do not feed on the sap of the leaves. Neem oil will never enter the nectar, protecting bees and butterflies!

12. Fungicide

Neem oil is also effective against fire blight, a bacterial disease that causes leaves to harden and appear scorched.

To prevent this, you can spray neem oil during the dormant season, as the bacteria that primarily cause fire blight overwinter in branches, trunks, and twigs.

13. Harmless to Beneficial Earthworms

Traditional insecticides containing chemicals are known to kill earthworms, but neem oil has the opposite effect, as it enhances earthworm activity. This is why neem oil is increasingly used in soil amendments.

All gardeners know how beneficial earthworms are to garden soil; they are likely to burrow throughout the process, allowing the medium to circulate air and loosen.

14. Fully Biodegradable

Nime oil is a biodegradable compound derived from the neem tree, decomposing rapidly. Most products consist of water, neem oil, and some solvents or surfactants to help the water and oil mix thoroughly.

15. Greenhouse Safety

Aphids, mites, scale insects, bugs, and whiteflies find greenhouses a perfect habitat, and you can stop them by spraying neem oil.

16. Keep Ticks Away

Nime oil is also effective at preventing ticks, especially from pets. Dilute neem oil with coconut oil or jojoba oil in a 1:1 ratio, soak a cotton ball in the solution, and then apply it to the areas on your pet where you find ticks.

Because topical application of neem oil is non-toxic to dogs and livestock, you can use it when washing their fur.

17. Prevent Mosquito Larvae

If you want to control mosquitoes in the most environmentally friendly way, mix a few drops of neem oil into water and spray it on the surfaces where you find larvae; it will kill them quickly.

You can also add a few drops of neem oil to ponds or container water gardens to eliminate mosquito larvae.

18. Repel Cockroaches

Cockroaches are annoying in the home and are often difficult to get rid of. Thankfully, you can use neem oil to eliminate them. Place several cotton balls soaked in neem oil where you find them, and they will stop entering the area because of the scent. Neem oil breaks down the outer layer of cockroach muscle, so they dare not come into contact with it.

19. Protect Fruit

The easiest way to protect fruit from birds and other pests is to coat it with a thin film of neem oil. Its scent will deter any animals from eating it.

Mix 1 part neem oil with 3 parts coconut oil and apply a layer to the fruit with cotton balls. Use at night, as it can damage fruit during the day.

20. Neem Oil Insecticide Recipe

Preparing an organic neem oil insecticide spray for your garden is relatively easy. All you need is neem oil and water. For effectiveness, you can also add a mild liquid dish soap.
