Recently, AgPlenus, a subsidiary of Israeli biotechnology company Evogene, announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Bayer to jointly develop new sustainable herbicide products.
Through the collaboration, AgPlenus will use its ChemPass artificial intelligence technology platform to identify herbicide molecules with a new mode of action (targeting the APTH1 protein). Bayer will be responsible for testing and optimizing the molecules to develop commercialized products. Under the agreement, AgPlenus is entitled to an upfront payment, ongoing research funding and royalties based on future product sales, and Bayer will have an exclusive license to develop and commercialize the collaboratively developed products.
Combining AgPlenus' expertise with Bayer's CropKey crop protection innovation will help accelerate the delivery of sustainable and economical solutions to farmers and set a new benchmark in the industry.
