Recently, Sipcam Nichino Brazil revealed to AgroPages that it has launched a new insecticide Fiera (buprofen) to the Brazilian market as a strategic product of the company's innovative citrus psyllid control plan.
Fiera contains the active ingredient buprofezinone, which has a growth-regulating effect on insects. It works through contact with psyllid nymphs (larval stage). It is recommended to apply this solution when this pest first appears in the orchard.
In addition, the company has launched the acaricide Fujimite, which has just received regulatory approval for the control of citrus psyllid. This solution has been used successfully in citrus cultivation to control pests of high economic relevance, such as Brevipalpus phoenicis, which acts through contact and ingestion. Sipcam Nichino Brazil pointed out that the prevention and control rate of Fujimite can reach 80% to 100%.
Citrus psyllid is the only vector pest of Huanglongbing, a disease that affected nearly 40% of Brazilian orchards in 2023 and has attracted widespread attention from researchers and the pesticide industry. According to a survey by Brazil's Kynetec, the investment in citrus psyllid control treatment reached 271 million reais, accounting for 23% of the total pesticide market for this crop. This represents an increase of 42% compared to the previous quarter's BRL 191 million. According to data from Fundecitrus (Citrus Defense Fund), huanglongbing has increased by 56% in São Paulo alone, causing losses of up to 3.5 million reais on some farms.
Sipcam Nichino Brazil said that from a phytosanitary perspective, one of the main recommendations to citrus growers is to rotate products with different active ingredients.
