Fipronil is considered highly dangerous and has been banned in more than 30 countries, including the European Union. Recently, according to the Administrative Decree No. 43767-S-MEAE published by Costa Rica's "Official Gazette" (La Gaceta), Costa Rica has banned the use of the insecticide fipronil for professional or industrial purposes since November 11.
The administrative decree stipulates that "the registration, import, manufacture, preparation, storage, distribution, transportation, reimbursement, manipulation, compounding, marketing and active use of the active ingredient of fipronil technical preparation technology for professional or industrial purposes are prohibited."

The decree also provides for a period of six months from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, without further extension, during which time all stocks of fipronil products in the domestic market of Costa Rica will be consumed. Afterwards, the Costa Rican Ministry of Health will cancel all these records.
Henry Picado, a spokesman for the Federation of Ecologists, said that this time it is to prohibit companies from applying fipronil in physical building facilities, and has nothing to do with the application of environmental conditions such as agricultural management.
