Recently, FMC launched the insecticide Mustang 20 EW in Argentina, whose active ingredient is Z-cypermethrin. Mustang 20 EW is a pyrethroid insecticide used to control hemipteran and lepidopteran insects in the early stages of soybeans, cotton, sunflowers and corn. It is the only insect-registered product on the country's market.
Mustang 20 EW acts through contact and ingestion and is designed for application to established crops in the fallow period, pre-seeding or using water as a carrier. Its innovative and unique EW formula has strong solubility, allowing the residue to penetrate into the parts where the pests are located. FMC said the insecticide is an essential tool in preventing insects from having significant negative impacts on crops, and its product portfolio also includes Archer Plus, a new generation of microencapsulated pyrethroids.
In Argentina, an average of 1 in 5 corn crops is lost to soil pests, resulting in a potential yield loss of 20%, which is prohibitively expensive compared with the input costs of preventive pesticide applications. The FMC emphasized that it is crucial to control soil pest communities mainly composed of beetles, lepidopteran larvae and stink bugs, which can extremely damage crop growth and development, resulting in possible significant reductions in yield and quality.
From its Argentina office in Buenos Aires, FMC leads the practice throughout the Southern Cone of South America, including Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia.
