FMC will launch a new Ethos Elite LFR insecticide/biofungicide product for the US market in 2024. This product combines the insecticidal ingredient Bifenthrin with FMC’s exclusive strain of: Bacillus veleis RTI301 and Bacillus subtilis RTI30, these ingredients have been researched and tested and can effectively prevent and control a variety of early planting diseases and soil pests.
Ethos Elite LFR is registered for corn, soybeans, cotton, peanuts, tomatoes, rapeseed and other crops. The product can control harmful pests such as corn rootworms, root cutworms, grubs, seed flies and wireworms. Two fungicidal strains in the product help suppress seedling-stage diseases such as Fusarium, Phytophthora, Pythium and Rhizoctonia.
Matthew Pye, FMC's US biotech expert, said: Getting crops off to a strong start in spring is crucial to increasing yield potential. Ethos Elite LFR protects early seedlings, creates conditions for more consistent emergence and improves seedling vigor. This product with At-Plant technology helps growers improve crop and operational efficiency.
New formulation compatible with conventional implant systems
This product uses FMC's patented Liquid Fertilizer Ready (LFR) formulation technology, which provides excellent mixing and stability. LFR technology ensures that the solution is evenly suspended in the fertilizer and can be continuously applied to the field. Ethos Elite LFR has excellent tank-mixing effect with base fertilizer and water, is highly compatible with traditional pesticides, is easy to use, and can be applied in one go.
Unique biocontrol bacteria are beneficial to plant physiology
Soil pests that attack the roots such as corn rootworms can easily infect seedlings with diseases. The unique strains contained in the product provide growers with preventive protection against insect damage in the event of insect damage. In addition, the root system of crops will be healthier, improving plant survival rate and thus increasing yield.
Ethos Elite LFR insecticide/biofungicide is based on two FMC patented strains - Bacillus veleis RTI301 and Bacillus subtilis RTI477, which provide dual biofungicide and biostimulant activity to crops. Ethos Elite LFR using At-Plant technology complements the capabilities of seed treatments by extending the control period.
Unlike synthetic chemicals, the activity of Ethos Elite LFR biofungicide increases over time and spores germinate and colonize roots and root hairs, forming a defensive barrier against pathogen infection. This results in a stronger root system, which helps develop a healthier crop that is better able to withstand stress.
Pye stated: “At FMC, we are committed to developing new solutions to help growers meet changing pest and disease challenges and protect yield potential. Ethos Elite LFR is a new product that meets growers’ needs for control and convenience. "
Ethos Elite LFR will be available in limited quantities during the 2024 growing season and will be generally available in 2025.
