Sipcam Agro USA Launches Biofungicide To Effectively Control Grape Ear Rot And Powdery Mildew

Sipcam Agro USA launches Mevalone in California, USA. This biofungicide is used to combat grape ear rot and powdery mildew (the control of powdery mildew has been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency and is pending approval in California). The product, which has been used by European growers for many years, is now registered in California and available in 16 other U.S. states.

According to the company, Mevalone can hinder the germination of disease spores and has therapeutic functions. When applied at the recommended time, it can exert a disease prevention effect. Its effect is equivalent to that of chemical pesticide benchmark products on the market. For growers looking for a resistance management product, Mevalone, listed in the BM01 biogroup by the International Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC), has the lowest risk of developing gray mold resistance. Repeated tests on Mevalone conducted by universities and third-party institutions from 2007 to 2023 showed that the product will not affect the grape fermentation or winemaking process, nor will it affect the aroma. Mevalone has a pre-harvest interval of only 3 days and a re-entry interval of 12 hours, allowing for up to 4 applications per season.

Mevalone's natural active ingredients are thymol (thyme), geraniol (damask rose) and eugenol (clove oil). It belongs to a large class of plant secondary metabolites - terpenes (isoprene polymers), which are very safe for the environment and will not affect the taste of wine. These highly potent active ingredients are exempted from MRL requirements in food. In contrast to fungicides, which are subject to maximum residue limit requirements, grapes using Mevalone can be exported overseas to the United States.

Sipcam Agro USA also stated that Mevalone uses Eden Research's patented Sustaine technology. Compared to other terpene-containing fungicides on the market, Sustaine technology controls terpene volatilization, allowing the terpene load to be released in humid environments while maintaining load when the weather becomes dry. The ability to control disease when the environment is suitable for fungal growth makes Mevalone no more than 4 times more effective than other terpene products. At the same time, the formulation does not contain solvents and microplastics, making it safer for the environment.

In addition, Mevalone can be used with Annuity™, a new concentrated suspension of organic matter blends that improves soil structure, increases the ability to conserve nutrients, and promotes healthy root development, increasing grape, nut tree and citrus yields.
