Recently, Brazilian agronomists said that the sugarcane cicada (Mahanarva fimbriolata) is becoming the main pest that harms sugarcane production in Brazil. The increase in the number of harmful sucking insects, such as moth cicadas, in sugarcane fields urgently requires Brazilian farmers to pay full attention to their occurrence as they are causing significant damage.
According to data from Brazil's National Federation of the Plant Protection Products Industry (Sindiveg), the use of pesticides against Cicada cane has increased in 2022. Sugarcane moth can also cause root rot and necrosis of sugarcane, and if not handled properly, this pest can cause crop losses of up to 80%.
