The pure substance melting point is 209~213°C. it is insoluble in water and acetone, soluble in methanol, ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide and other solvents, and has a solubility of 26% in dimethyl sulfoxide at room temperature. Trans-Zeatin is a natural plant cytokinin (CKs) found in higher plants. It was first discovered and isolated from young corn cobs. Later, the substance and its derivatives were also found in coconut juice. As a plant growth regulator, it not only promotes the growth of lateral buds, stimulates cell differentiation (lateral dominance), and promotes callus and seed germination. It can also prevent leaf senescence, reverse toxin damage to the buds, and inhibit excessive root formation. High concentrations of zeatin can also promote adventitious bud differentiation.

Zeatin has two isomers in structure, cis and trans. The trans isomer has strong biological activity, while the cis isomer has weaker activity. Trans-zeatin activates its function by highly binding to receptors, including Arabidopsis histidine kinase (AHK). Among them, the binding of AHK3 receptor to trans-zeatin plays an important role in regulating plant metabolism.
