Argentine Glyphosate Prices Have Fallen By 30%

According to a recent report by Az Group, a consultancy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the price of glyphosate in the Argentine market has dropped by 30%.

At the beginning of this year, the price of glyphosate herbicide was $13.20 per liter, and it has now dropped to $9.90 per liter. According to Az Group, after reaching its peak in December 2021, the price of glyphosate has shown a downward trend.

The price trend in the local market is similar to that in China. The price of glyphosate in China also reached its peak at the end of last year. In 2022, the price has dropped by 36%, from US$13.19 per liter to US$8.4 per liter. Az Group explained that although the reference values for glyphosate content in the research reports differ, they all reflect a downward trend in both markets. Among all pesticide products, glyphosate prices led the decline, followed by other herbicides, including glufosinate (-20%), clethodim (-11%), and 2,4-D (-1%) .

In the Argentine market, a 300% jump in herbicide prices in 2021 has disrupted price relationships. For example, the cost per liter of glyphosate required 21 kg of soybeans to be sold over the past three years and 29 kg of soybeans in 2021.

"Currently this buying relationship is still below average, but lower prices for herbicides are slowly recovering this value," said market analyst Jeremías Battistoni, author of the Az Group report.
