BASF’s Biological Insecticide/acaricide (Beauveria Bassiana Strain) Is Launched in The United States

BASF has expanded its registration in the United States for its Velifer® biocidal insecticide/miticide, which can be sprayed onto soil in greenhouses and now also dip-coated and watered-in, providing greater flexibility in integrated pest management plans. The expanded label also includes new application crops: fruit and nut trees, grapes, blackberries and shrub berries.

According to BASF, Velifer biopesticide/acaricide contains a unique strain of Beauveria bassiana and works through direct contact with mites, thrips, aphids, mealybugs and mealybugs in commercial greenhouses. The product can be used in combination with beneficial insects. Additionally, its superior formulation provides excellent plant safety and leaves no harmful residues on crops. Liz Dunbar, product manager for greenhouses and nurseries at BASF, said dip coating and water-in applications offer more ways to manage troublesome pests.

BASF will continue work on the labeling and new product name of Velifer fungus-derived insecticide/acaricide through the transition to new materials.
