Recently, Corteva launched Hector ®, a new corn herbicide in Spain, designed to provide post-emergence control of broad-leaf and narrow-leaf weeds.
Hector® solves weed problems with its dual mechanism of action: an ALS inhibitor (HRAC Group 2, nicosulfuron and fensulfuron) and a synthetic auxin (HRAC Group 4, dicamba). Its wide range of control and high selectivity make Hector® the ideal solution for corn growers.
In order to enhance the selectivity of the product, Hector® specially adds the safener isoxadifen-ethyl (disoxadifen-ethyl). The safener improves the crop's tolerance to herbicides by enhancing the activity of GST and P450 enzymes in the crop. In addition, the addition of this safener allows Hector® to be mixed with Vivolt® (a non-ionic wetting agent) without affecting the production potential of the corn crop.
Corn is an important crop in Spain. Its main corn-producing autonomous regions are Castile and León (27.42% of total production), Aragon (20%) and Galicia (19.82%). This is followed by Catalonia (11.52%) and Extremadura (4.61%).
Corteva plans to launch more products such as Dragster®, Emir® and Lortama® Rinskor™ (chloropyridinate) in the future, which together with Hector® and Arigo® will form a comprehensive corn herbicide product portfolio. This series of products will help farmers protect their crops more effectively and improve crop yield and quality, thereby enhancing their competitiveness and profitability in the market.
