Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) updated its management regulations for existing stocks of three chlorpyrifos pesticide products produced by ADAMA. Includes Pyrinex (EPA registration number 11678-58), Chlorpyrifos 4E AG (Quali-Pro Chlorpyrifos 4E, EPA registration number 66222-19) and Vulcan (EPA registration number 66222-223).
In August 2021, the EPA revoked all maximum residue limits for chlorpyrifos in food, banning its use on all food and feed crops. In December 2023, a court decision overturned this rule, and EPA subsequently restored all chlorpyrifos residue limits.
In the latest on-hand-stock rule, the EPA allows the sale and distribution of the chlorpyrifos insecticide Pyrinex on-hand until June 30, 2024. Chlorpyrifos 4E AG/Quali-Pro Chlorpyrifos 4E and Vulcan are available from stock until April 30, 2025. Chlorpyrifos 4E AG/Quali-Pro Chlorpyrifos 4E and Vulcan are available from existing stocks until June 30, 2025 and must comply with product labeling requirements when used in food, food processing and manufacturing sites. Non-food uses are allowed until existing stocks are exhausted, subject to labeling regulations.
The sale, distribution and use of any existing stock of these three products after the above deadlines will be prohibited except for export and proper disposal.
This regulation aims to orderly transition and digest the current stock of chlorpyrifos pesticides in the United States. Relevant parties will closely monitor the implementation.
