Imidacloprid is more suitable for soil treatment and seed treatment. It acts on pests via stomach poisoning and contact toxicity. When applied as foliar spray, it delivers good efficacy with long duration, yet the pesticide retained on stems and leaves remains in the original imidacloprid structure.

Application of Imidacloprid in Rice Pest Control

It is mainly used to control piercing-sucking pests including rice planthoppers, rice leafhoppers, rice thrips and rice aphids, and also effective against rice borers, rice root maggots and rice weevils.

For rice thrips control in seedling fields: mix 1 part 1% suspension seed coating agent with 30-40 parts rice seeds for seed coating. Alternatively, conduct seed dressing: when rice seeds sprout, mix 25-30 grams of 10% wettable powder diluted with proper water into seeds, continue accelerating germination for 24 hours before sowing, which can suppress thrip damage at seedling stage for over 25 days.

1. For rice planthoppers, rice leafhoppers and rice whiteflies: spray 150-300 grams of 10% wettable powder per hectare diluted in 750 kg water during the peak occurrence of young nymphs; it also works well against rice aphids.

2. For rice gall midge: spray 150-300 grams of 5% hypertonic wettable powder per hectare diluted in 50 kg water.

Application of Imidacloprid in Vegetable Pest Control

1. For vegetable aphids: apply pesticides when pest populations rise. Use 75-150 g of 10% wettable powder, 600-750 mL of 2% hypertonic EC, 15-19.5 g of 70% water dispersible granules or 75-150 mL of 20% soluble concentrate per hectare, dilute with 600-900 kg water for foliar spraying.

2. For greenhouse whiteflies: spray 225-450 mL of 20% concentrated soluble solution or 450-750 g of 10% wettable powder per hectare mixed with 600-900 kg water when nymph numbers increase to effectively curb pest damage.

3. For leafminers: spray 10% wettable powder diluted 2000-3000 times or 20% soluble concentrate diluted 4000-5000 times at larval stage, with efficacy lasting 10 to 15 days.
